ESPN reports Beltran is not for sale

I doubt it - as soon as they feel they are out of it, they will unload him. He was way to costly, and they are getting diminishing returns...

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Thanks for the new link.

Well this quote:

"We've put so much into this year," the GM says, "that trading guys like that only makes sense if A) we think we're out of the wild card, and B) we can get something back that makes sense."

is exactly what is going to happen IMO unless they turn it around quickly.

I don't see Beltran going anywhere even though theyt are 9 back in the division, because of the tight race for the wild card

The Astros will not be shooting for the division title, but the wild card. They are only 3.5 games back of the wild card, which is more than reasonable. The Astros have over 2 weeks or so to make up that ground. If they can keep close and have a chance to win the wild card, they will hold onto Beltran. But if they slip much farther back, they most likely will be looking to deal Beltran to another contender. But it is going to take a big slip for the Astros to admit they are totally out of it and give up, not with the talent they have.
