I can't believe your choices for a keeper come to these two guys, but if I had to choose one or the other, versus other people on your staff I would certainly choose Mota.
Mota is always going to lower your ERA and WHIP while getting an occasional W. Also, if in some terrible situation Gagne goes down he immediately becomes the closer and would be lights out. Valverde isn't even guaranteed to be the closer next season IMO.
No guarantee when Valverde returns or whather he's the closer when he does, if it's later rather than sooner.
Plus, while the Dodgers are still resisting overtures for Mota, they may have to bite the bullet and deal him for a SP or bat if they want to make the playoffs.
My keeper league...Mota or Valverde for WW Shawn Green, or somebody else? The Big Hurt Seems destined for DL right now. And I'll need somebody to start. Encarnación, Bradley,Gerut, & Wilkerson seem like the oly replacmentbesdies Green, but none have his upside. What do you think???

How can someone say not Valverde because he is not a "proven closer?" And Mota is? All Mota has done is pitch 2 very good seasons in a pitcher's park in a set-up role. There are lots of guys who can put a great numbers as a set-up guy at Dodger Stadium, but there are far fewer that can be effective closers (see Herges, Matt). His numbers might not be the same if he is traded to another park, and he not the most mentally stable guy, so who knows how he will hold up under the pressure of closing? At the end of the day I like Mota, but let's not pretend he has an extended track record of excellent performance.
In case you haven't noticed Valverde is pretty lights out as a set-up guy in terms of Ks, ERA and WHIP, and he actually had a closer job and performed OK, and any performance shortcoming could be attibuted to the injury. Bottom line is that Valverde has the most upside and the best shot at a closer's job net year.
theres very few guys in all of baseball that can throw as fast as Mota and with as much movement. undervaluing him just cos of "he pitched in LA in a setup role" is a FATAL mistake imo.
right now, what you can do is put Konerko in at 1B and bring Chavez back in at util. pretty simple. that gives you some more time to think. in a keeper, id personally keep Mota. Mota would be closing on a pretty big majority of teams right now. like Warrick said, Bruney is more in favor with the D'back organization for the long run.
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.
