Question about the AROD deal.

Postby kaz » Thu Jul 08, 2004 2:10 pm

I remember it as Arod for Soriano and a player to be named.

Who was that player? Was it Delucci?

I don't think there was a player to be named. It wasn't Delucci, he went there via free agency.

I think it was shortstop Joaquin Arias. Here is a little info about him:

Arias, age 19: Known as "Spiderman" because his arms and legs appear to be going in different directions at once, he nonetheless has good body control and is both the fastest baserunner and best defensive infielder in the system. He also has a quick bat and promising raw power, though he needs to draw more walks. He hit .266/.306/.343 with three homers, 48 RBIs and 12 steals in 130 games at Battle Creek last year.

Delucci came with Buck from Arizona, so it wasn't him.

I'll try to check into this later tonight and see what I can dig up. :-?

heres your answer.

actually... tmoney's on the money. it was Arias... the Rangers chose him from a pool of 5 NY prospects. hes only 19 right now and pretty raw but hes got good enough potential to be decent everyday SS in the majors. hes pretty good defensively. decent speed. hes going in the right direction right now from his current minor league numbers- 288/.323/.397 ... hes still gotta a pretty long way to go tho.
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.

Mad.......Dellucci didn't come with Buck. He was on Arizona and the Yankees last year.
