Lackey Question/Comment

Postby matmat » Wed Jul 07, 2004 5:21 pm

First a little bragging. :)
I started him yesterday against the WSox and was rewarded with a nice performance. ;-D

Ok. now the question.
He had about three bad outings this season, one against the Sox, one against Texas and one against the Yankees, outside of that he has done well. Any thought on whether he will continue doing well?
did he change something about his delivery/approach that has caused him to pitch better?

June Stats
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll drown because you forgot to teach him to swim.

i like him enough to think that he'll be at least decent enough the rest of the way. i dunno if he changed anything in his delivery or not but as far as his approach goes, he was relying too much on his fastball last year.. and hence the better k rate. but this year hes mixing up his pitches better and relying less on his fb, which is the "more natural" john lackey. ive only seen him pitch in small parts a couple of times on tv, but i think he has enough confidence this year to get his offspeed stuff over more consistantly for strikes. hes not giving either up too many hr's or walks at all this year which is always a good sign (on pace for 22 and 51). ;-D

obviously his wins are supposed to pick up now with the improved halo offense. the only particular knock on him as a fantasy pitcher is his K's.
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.
