How is Giambi an All-Star starter?

Postby R-man » Wed Jul 07, 2004 4:42 pm

He's hitting .245 with 11 HRs and 32 RBIs and he's a starter? He has virtually the same numbers as Shawn Green who has taken a ton of grief this year.

What about Jetter he's hitting a whopping .274 and he's a starter as well.

Then I look at Beltre (I know he's in the NL) who is hitting over .318 with 22 HRs and 56 RBIs and is not even named. Beltre even hits in a much tougher hitters park.

What's the deal? If you have a pulse, have a big contract and are a Yankee you get named? Somethings wrong here...

You should know that the starters of the All-Star game is just a popularity contest for the main part. And where are there tons of fans to vote? You guessed it NY, that and the Yanks have fans all over the world.

i agree. :-D

Giambi is one of the worst AS selections ive ever seen. some say he got elected cos "the fans vote for who they wanna see"... :-b
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.

I say that if you suck it up that much, like giambi and jeter, you should pass your invite to someone who deserves it ;-D

these "fans" sure can be dips**ts. And I don't want to see a shrunken Giambi spread his parasites onto players that I actually root for.

Giambi is a huge stretch
Jeter is actually an OK choice. his numbers are good and he is popular.

yeah... I think Giambi should probably bow out.

Giambi = Yankee
Yankee = All-Star
All-Star = over rated.

So if I follow the logic... Giambi and Jetter got selected because they play for the Yankees and because the Yankees have tons of fans who voted for them. And these fans don't know or respect baseball enough to know that the All-Star game is for players who have performed above and beyond not just for players on their favorite team. So because of these type of selfish fans a player going to the All Star game doesn't mean what it did 25 years ago. Kinda sad really.

There should be some kind of baseline like you can't be on the All-Star team if you are hitting less than .280 or something.
