Would you start Woody Williams in Houston tomorrow?

Postby jdh » Fri Apr 11, 2003 11:37 pm

He is my 7th string starter and I am a little gun shy of letting him start tomorrow, being in Houston and also facing the lethal Bagwell-Berkman-Kent combo. Does anyone recall how safe he is to start? When he loses, does he tend to get shelled or only get banged up for 4 or 5 runs?

I would bench him without even thinking about it. Williams isn't proven enough to start in Houston. There's no telling how many runs he could give up.

Incidentally, his last two starts against Houston, the first time he gave up 5 hits and no runs in 7 innings in Houston, and the second time he gave up 3 runs and 6 hits in only 4.2 innings, at home. However, he had a couple of starts last year and the year before where he just blew up completely. He could pitch great tomorrow, or he could be terrible.

you must have a strong staff with woody as your 7th stringer. i think hes a sleeper. i got him late, but i think he'll have a very productive year as the #2 on a very good team. start him,, i am.

He's 5-2 lifetime with about a 2.50 ERA lifetime against HOU.

I started him too - 6 scoreless innings and the all-important W.

Yeah, at the last minute I decided to toss him in there and am glad I did. The combination of how and Wood today really helped my ailing ERA.
