Giles out with a twisted knee

Postby jdh » Fri Apr 11, 2003 11:25 pm

Brian Giles had to have an MRI done on his knee today and it is suspected that he twisted it. He will be out for at least this weekend.

Any idea how long these types of injuries take to recover from? This really sucks because I just acquired him in a trade yesterday and now this happened. I have Carl Crawford as my backup outfielder. Do you think he is an acceptable temporary starting outfielder?

Crawford should be decent for some hits and steals as a temporary solution. Yo won't know how long Giles is out until the MRI comes back, so just sit tight and check on it once in a while.

Just posted on TSN site that his MRI revealed a strained ligament and he is going on the 15 day DL tomorrow. Crap. crap. crap.

Actually, I'm just relieved that he didn't tear something in his knee. I can deal with 15 days of no Brian Giles (although it'll hurt). But I couldn't deal with a whole season without the guy. WHEEESH! I feel like I just dodged a giant bullet. I was really scared when I heard that an MRI was necessary. So look at the bright side. He'll be back soon.

What I am worried about is that it will be one of those nagging type of things that either keeps him in and out of the lineup or kills his numbers all season. Usually, when they go on the 15 day DL they are out for more like 3-4 wks and then not at full strength after that.

Hmmm... It could be. The injury that usually worries me the most is a nagging back problem. But I'm actually glad that he's going to take some time off to get healthy. I would think that a sprained knee should get better with rest, although I'm certainly not a doctor.

Yeah, what I am most irritated about is that I just got him last night in a blockbuster trade with Giles and Magglio for Pedro and Wilkerson to shore up my offense. Not only did Giles get injured the day I traded for him, Wilkerson hit a grand slam the day I gave him up. GRRR!

Giles trade

Postby Triple Threat » Sat Apr 12, 2003 1:02 pm

I just traded for him the day before as well. I got Giles and Matt Morris for Sheffield and Runny Hernandez. Looks like I'm going to have to wait for Giles.

Well, just feel happy that you got by far the best of that deal. Runny Hernandez has been good so far but Morris is the far superior and more proven pitcher and plays for a contending team. Giles is also so much better than Sheffield.
