espn says Aramis Ramirez 2nd half meltdown?

Postby scorched03 » Wed Jul 07, 2004 12:12 pm

i thought this guy was a stud, destined to have .300 30 hr 100rbi? yet the fantasy baseball writer says he will drop off significantly.

what do u guys think? i think hitting behind sosa and having d. lee as protection with alou around too, he should see plenty rbi opp and good pitches.

he must be expecting this groin injury to hamper his play. There is no other reason why he would not continue to hit.

That's true, especially since he really turned it on during the stretch run for the Cubs last year. Must be the groin.

I took aramis in the 7th round and have been happy as hell with his production, as long as Sosa stays healthy I see aramis producing a nice amount of rbi's and Hr's and keping his batting avg. somewhat over .300, I think he will finish with a .316 avg. 29HR and 115rbi's, a little drop off from the first half but still a great guy to plug in at 3b

its kinda undersood i think when he has a sweet first half like this, theres bound to be at least a lil dropoff. how much .. i dunno. didnt read the article but besides the groin, a thing that i see hapening is that Derek Lee starts slammin' like he does after the AS break and then ramirez moves down the order and no longer has Derek Lee's protection.
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.

The hacks that write fantasy baseball columns have to fill up space. Predicting who will bomb and who will explode in the second half gives these guys an easy column every July. In my experience, this analysis is usually predicated on a bunch of nothing and should be taken with a gain of salt. In general, most fantasy baseball columnists are bafoons--you will usually find better advice from the people in this forum.

under 2nd Half Busts
"# Aramis Ramirez, Cubs, 3B. Ramirez is a career .269 hitter and has never scored more than 83 runs in a season. He is typically slightly better before the All-Star break, and it is unlikely that he continue his torrid pace of batting .321 with well over 100 runs and RBIs. While he is just 26 years old and does have a ton of potential, Ramirez owners should listen to offers. On ESPN.com's Trade Tracker, he was recently traded for Todd Helton and Keith Foulke, and was used in packages to get Alex Rodriguez. See if you can do the same."

Helton AND Foulke? Uh huh.....

I find it interesting that Beltre was excluded fom the list considering the same exact logic could be applied to him.
