Amen to that. Do you remember a couple of years ago when he hit that triple? He had shown bunt and then lobbed the ball over the OF's head. He looked like his chest was going to explode by the time he got to third - in the time it would have taken Pierre to run the bases 3 times around.
For weeks afterward he showed bunt almost every at-bat.
The Mets have done suprisingly well this year. The addition of Hidalgo seems to have given them an energy-boost, which is obviously what they needed to contend in this tight race in the NL East. They're tied for second with Atlanta and are only two games out of first. (The closest they've been in...3-4 (?) years....)
Yep this is exactly what Leiter will bring Florida; a fierce competitor. He just doesn't have the stamina to be a very effective pitcher anymore but I think he is going to have a profound effect on the young guns.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
