Just becuase a player wins the event doesn't give them a free ticket. What if Player X wins it and retires ;-)

Well obviously there are special circumstances but I think if they are going to invite Palmeiro who wasn't elected to the team, they should invite the current champion if he wants in.

Off topic, but Eftda that is one of the funniest banners I've ever seen! Was that an actual banner ad or did you make that?

They invited him because they want all the 500-HR guys in it. They are having some sort of celebration with all the 500 HR hitters ever. Well the ones that are still alive, anyway.

Here is the Derby:

AL:
Jason Giambi
Hank Blalock
David Ortiz
Rafael Palmeiro

NL:
Ken Griffey Jr.
Barry Bonds
Sammy Sosa
Jim Thome

Anyone notice all of these hitters are lefties besides Sosa? I was looking forward to see some righties hitting the balls over the train tracks in Houston....

Way to pick'em guys. :-t

Palmeiro was invited because he's one of 4 guys currently playing that are in the 500 home run club. The other three? Sosa, Griffey and Bonds... all on the all star team.

Berkman's a c=good choice; hometown favourite. Another lefty though, and Houston definately favours righties. Since he's a switch hitter maybe he'll bat right-handed :-D .................. I doubt it though.

I get the feeling that even a guy like Jose Guillen could win this thing if they put him in it. All you have to do is hit a deep fly ball to LF and it's gone..... I guess that means my pick to win it is Sosa.
