Hey guys, you haven't steered me wrong on my fantasy teams so far ..........OK when I actually take your advice you haven't Anway the old computer I've got now just isn't cutting it and I've been wanting to find a place online to find a good deal. I don't know a whole lot about computers so I'm not going to be physically building my own, but know enough to know that when you buy from Dell, Gateway, etc all you're really paying for is the name on the box since the components and warranties are pretty much the same. I found a good place a while back but they seem to have gone under or changed websites and I can't find them anymore. I'm looking to find a good machine for under $1000. Any suggestions of reputable dealers would be much appreciated.
If I were buying one today, I'd go with a Dell. They are much more upgradeable than anything you'll find in Best Buy/Circuit City/ etc. Upgradeability isn't a huge issue anymore though, simply because when a computer should be upgraded, it is usually just time to update and buy a new computer all together IMO.
However, Dell's aren't too expensive if you're just buying the CPU and no monitor. You should have no problem getting a nice desktop for under $1,000. You might even be able to find a nice package deal with monitor for under $1,000 if you look hard enough.
I've looked at Dell's website and talked with them on the phone, but they just don't seem to have much "bang for the buck" and versatility/options compared to what I've seen other places. For the $1200 I was going to spend on a nice desktop w/monitor from Dell I could get a system from other places online that would have easily cost me $2000+ from a place like Dell. The only thing I really worry about is warranties and stuff like that because Dell is a big name you know they'll be around for a while.

Something that will handle most games and stuff like that for a while -- at 3ghz or so and something that can be expanded rather easily as far as graphics cards, RAM, etc. Graphics cards and RAM are easy to come by second hand off ebay and places like that, but Dell won't just sell you the processor and motherboard. If you want a fast processor and mobo then you have to upgrade everything and they really rip you off on that stuff.
DO NOT GET A MAC. I REPEAT< DO NOT GET A MAC. If your doing a lot of video/music mixing, they are great, but I always hated MACs because they seem to be less compatible with everything on the net and you can't get any good games for them. I have a DELL and have loved it so far. No problems, runs smooth. But if you can get more for your money do it as long as you get the same security and warranty of somewhere like Dell.
