Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
as a red sox fan id like to see nomar stay, the only problem is most likely nomar wont resign with us. Getting Penny or Pavano would be a great addition, I'd probably rather have Penny just because I think he'll be better in the long run than pavano and hes not a FA after next season. The sox need rotation help and this would be a great addition. Plus Penny was a stud against the Yanks in the world series...thats a major plus
Actually, there's little question that Nomar will eventually move to the other side of the infield. He'll have to. His range had decreased over the past couple of years as it is, just like it does for many SS as they get older. Now add in the heel problem, and the likelihood of a move sometime in the next few seasons becomes stronger.
Ripken moved from SS to 3B when his range shortened. The great Ernie Banks went from SS to 1B and played there for several campaigns. I'm not saying Garciaparra will be making a position change now, but it wouldn't shock me if he does within a couple of years.
