Figgins: Why would he sit?

Postby Opinion Ape » Fri Jul 02, 2004 5:15 pm

So, in cruising 'round this little Cafe today, I've seen in three or four separate threads speculation that Sir Chone might be sat down very soon, particularly if the Angels call up some kid from AAA.

Why would Anaheim sit this guy? Is this speculation based on something or just an unhealthy meme spreading throughout the board? The man is batting for average and has an OBP of .421 in the last month, and he's a constant threat to steal.

Even if the Angels did feel a compulsion to bring this kid up from AAA, why couldn't Figgins get moved around? He's played the OF before. It's hard to imagine that type of production would be the first guy taken out of any line-up.

Genuinely curious. What am I missing?

I'm going to take for granted the person you are talking about as being called up is Dallas McPherson - 3B, since that is where Figgins has been playing. Where would you play Figgins in the OF? Over Guillen, Vlad, or Anderson? Never will happen. If anything they should let him play 2B instead of Kennedy who just isn't very good at all.

Oh yeah this kid in AAA, McPherson, is just absolutely hammering the ball.

This Angel fan at the office said the same thing--about Figgy playing 2nd base....there's no need to rush Dallas.

What has this "Vlad" guy EVER done in this league?

Yeah, I realized as soon as I submitted that I couldn't solve my own equation. I just hope Anaheim's management can. I think it would be a mistake for them to take Figgins out of that line-up . . . although I'm obviously biased by having him on my team.

in the AL? in his first season he's a pretty bonafide triple crown threat. i'm sure someone will surpass him in HRs, as his ceiling seems to be about 45 HRs, but for RBIs and avg he's looking pretty damn good.

with protection, he can put up better #s than a-rod, which i've been saying since 2002

now watch a-rod go 30/30 again to piss on my vlad parade, damn you a-roddimus maximus.

I don't believe in emoticons; I feel they're often used in place of genuine sarcasm/humor. But in this instance, I clearly fell short.

Dude, I was kidding.
