Speaking from the cellar, I can say that it has nothing to do with the standings - I am the last one that wants to bring up the standings.
Maybe its the avatar - but I think that shortsausage is a better handle.
While Baltimore is relatively close, it is almost impossible for people who work past 5:30 to make it to 7pm starts. If Balt wanted to really accomodate the DC market fanbase, they would bump the starts to 7:30.
We are what, the 4th largest media market? We've got a plan for stadium. Most of the critical infrastructure is in place already.
While we don't support the Wizards or Capitols very well, I'd say that's based on utter crappiness. Massive support for the Redskins, good, bad or ugly.
I don't think that it has to do with crappines.
DC is definitely a football town.
If coach Gibbs could wear a tracksuit and kick dirt on an ump baseball may do well in DC but even when they are doing ok the Caps can't draw flies there.
My personal bias aside, Norfolk is already head and shoulders above the competition. They already have the stadium funding in place and an interim stadium in place. It's a huge population center that doesn't get much recognition partially because it lacks a pro franchise. And it's a baseball market. The Norfolk Tides are one of the most profitable minor league clubs in the country.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Haha, find me a crab-sausage and I will contemplate changing my name .
There was a report a few months ago about them moving here in CT. They would be called the Connecticut Colonials or something. As much as I'd like to have a major sports team in CT, this state is already split in three ways:

Yankee fans Met fans Redsox fans
There would be nobody left for the Colonials.
At least they could put away their old Whalers jerseys and get something new. I like the idea of CT - not a very far drive from Montreal.

DC has RFK we can use for a temporary home and funding mechanism has already been approved by the city gov't.
Regardless, this may very well be a one sports town. Still, hard to discount the size of the media market.
Yes you're right I forgot D.C. had approved the stadium planning. I think their only roadblock is Angelos but I'm not sure his argument is carrying much weight with MLB.

Angelos recently dropped his objection. Had the poll been "Where do you think the Expos WILL go?" then I would have voted D.C. I still think the Expos SHOULD go to Portland.

You could make the arguement that the market is too weak there cause hardly anyone goes to Hornet games, however the Zeyphers, a Stros farm team, is there and they are doing fine with the fans....
