The Cubs laughed off a rumor that they might send Matt Clement to Boston for Nomar Garciaparra.
Peter Gammons, among others, reported the rumor on Baseball Tonight. The Cubs would rather go after bullpen help, though, and are one of many teams looking at Ugueth Urbina, so LaTroy Hawkins owners should be aware. Jul. 2 - 8:32 am et
Even the Cubs don't want that clubhouse cancer...
If a man dwells on the past, then he robs the present.
But if a man ignores the past, he may rob the future.
The seeds of our destiny are nurtured by the roots of our past.

I like it for the Cubs, IF IF IF they can lock Nomar up (like talk to him about getting a long term deal done).
They're loaded with pitching in the minors:
Guzman
Sisco has potential
On top of Prior, Zambrano, and Wood
They're covered, IMO. Clement is good, but certainly not a superstar caliber pitcher, which Nomar brings to the table. Defense is a liability (Nomar+Walker equates to errors galore...Aramis doesn't help either), but that sort of bat is rare.

Nomar has brought 'superstar' caliber performance to the table in the past but he has not been delivering this year, even giving him a break for the injury. Sure it's an icky situation but, if he wants to be taken seriously as a player, pouting in the dugout while hitting .235 is not the way that's going to happen.
The Cubs have one petulant 'superstar'/ former 'superstar' already. One kind of wildcard thing would be if Nomar would respond favorably to a dose of Dusty and the fans/ scene @ Wrigley and get back on the bus. I'd like to see that happen a lot but, if I were gambling, I'd keep Clement.

Have you watched any Cubs games this year? Aramis's D has been great. Im pretty sure he doesn't have any errors. Hes been making big plays on bunts and short hits. I think he has really improved in the fielding department.

Having arguably the best defensive 1b doesn't hurt either.

Going to huge someday.
I am really hoping the Sox somehow get Delgado or Clement.. either deal would help them .. immensely.. probably getting Clement more so at this juncture.... That team needs a serious wakeup call... Trading Nomar should shake them awake! Its clear that Nomar doesnt want to be there... get rid of him !
