Going in to any single baseball game what is the one or two most important factors in determining who's going to win?
Starting Pitching, How hot a teams hitting, etc.

Runs.
if you score more than the other team, you win.
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll drown because you forgot to teach him to swim.

Pitching.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

having all your players show up. if they don't show up, you don't stand a chance.

-How many left/right handed hitters the pitcher has to face
-Pitcher's history against that team (i.e. Victor Zambrano vs Yankees)
-Team hot streak/cold streak
-Who the home team is
-Injuries

You're on a roll in this thread Matmat. :-D ;-D

I'd say the pitching vs. hitting matchup is the most important factor (other than the obvious like being able to field a full team ;-) ). :-D

in all honesty, the most important element is advance-scouting.
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll drown because you forgot to teach him to swim.
