I am currently jumping around in the 4-5-6 spots in my 8 team league. I am around 80 points and the leader has 100-105. What do I need to do in order to improve my team??

Not much you can do, it seems like your SP is comign around (Oswalt, Santana). You could get a better 3b though and maybe a new OF because shawn green blows as does bernie williams. (yeah I know chavez is hurt, but with 2 good 3b you can plug the 2nd one at util)

Your SP has underachieved quite a bit, especially Oswalt, Morris, and Webb (though he was overhyped IMO). If Wells performs like previous years he should help your OF which is average at best probably for such a small league. Tejada, Giles, and Green have underachieved at least what they were 'supposed' to do based on the last few years. Overall, I'd say you're doing pretty well to be middle of the pack because most of those guys are poised for a huge second half just by the law of averages.

Thanks for the help. Outfield went real fast in my draft while I stacked up on my infield....

This was my draft:
1. Albert Pujols
2. Miguel Tejada
3. Vernon Wells
4. Eric Chavez
5. Jeff Kent
6. Roy Oswalt

So obviously it hurt when my 3rd and 4th rounders went down and now even Kent is hurt a bit. I took Giles in the 7th and took a flyer on Green hoping he'd bounce back (so much for that ).

I think trading Smoltz might be a smart move since I have so many closers. Any idea on who to package him with or who to try to get in exchange for him?

my staff looks almost identical to yours (Burnett, Webb, Contreras) All three are on the upswing i believe. Chavez coming off the DL should help also.
The only thing i can suggest is perhaps trading one of your closers for an OF.
Other than that i think you will have a good 2nd half with the players you already have.

Thinking of giving Smoltz for Delgado which allows me to put Carlos on 1st and move Pujols to the outfield.

Like written above, your team's SPs are beginning to come around...they have underachieved. Still, the staff is a tad bit weak in terms of the starters. Oswalt is a borderline 1...you could use another stud considering the league's shallowness. Try to get an upgrade using either a closer, a two for 1 SP package, or even with Bernie or Hatteberg on top of an SP. Shop Zambrano. He's not going to pitch this well all year and you might as well cash in if the return value is near a top 5-10 pitcher.

Been hit pretty hard by injuries (Chavez and Wells), which is why you're not higher up. Smoltz isn't getting many opps, nor is he pitching as well as he did in the past.

Drop Hatteberg...unless you count OBP, where he's of some sort of value. Doesn't provide nearly enough power for a 1B/Util, though.

Bench Green until he starts making some noise. He's batting 6th now, as well. Start Dye or look on the wire for somebody. There should be some decent guys in an 8 team league.

Do you have to start Herges? He kills the ERA. Are guys like Chad Cordero available?

The injuries are killing you like they are me. All I can say is that when your SP and studs get healthy you should make a run and finish top 3. I'd also try to shop some of your other players like Sweeney and Green.
