Beltran pondering

Postby Tavish » Wed Jun 30, 2004 8:13 am

Assuming Houston doesn't close in on the Cards ( or any playoff spot in general) I'm wondering if we might hear the Beltran rumors start up again. Closer to the trading deadline what purpose would Houston have to hold onto Beltran if they are not in the hunt? Astros fans before you respond remember, Bora$ has left NO doubt that Beltran will test the free agent market and Beltran has often mentioned his desire to play in a large market like New York.

Not a houston fan but a Beltran owner, I hope they do close-in and he stays. looks like he's in the ideal spot for fantasy. Please don't let him go to the dodgers!!! B-)

It will take a long while before the Astros admit they are out. I would be very surprised to see him dealt, but who knows...

Dealing Beltran if Houston falls out of it is a pretty hot topic on sports radio right now and a real possibility. It would be right at the deadline if at all though.

His steals are going to drop off dramatically in Houston. Hes in the 3 hole now and has Berkman and usually Kent hitting behind him. Would you risk an out with those guys up? I think Beltran was overrated because of his steals. When was the last time he stole a base? I know he still has only 14, and Matt Lawton is doing better than him.

Same thing happened to Cliff Floyd two years ago--the Expos traded for him, and then dumped him to the Sox at the deadline when they didn't close ground on the Braves.
