From what I've seen of him this season, I must say that I believe he's for real. He's got a killer curve, Daryl Kile-like, and great composure on the hill. Last week, he brushed off Sosa with a fastball and then proceeded to throw an amazing hook for strike 3. I think the Cards got another late-blooming Toronto Blue Jay, although Carpenter has bloomed at a much younger age than Williams did
Carpenters talent was always there, but he had a major arm injury. I believe it was Tommy John. I think he is for real, I had him and traded him for Fransisco Cordero ( )
He may be for real, but I always had a bad feeling about him. A few years ago, I was about to pick him up but his ERA sky-rocketed and I left him in the free agent pool.
Oh yeah, some guy in one of my leagues offered me Carpenter for Oswalt, saying Carpenter obviously has more talent - and he meant it.. Kinda explains why the kid keeps saiying he'll catch me, but falls further back each day.
I'm from St Louis but not a homer though. I was very skeptical of Carpentar coming in to the season but Cardinal management, coaches and players kept raving about him. I am starting to believe he is for real. He has very good presence on the mound.
Does anyone honestly think he will continue this kind of production. Even if he is for real as many are saying, there is still almost no chance of him continuing to pitch like he is. As others have said, he hasn't played a full season in who knows how long, so do you expect him to just come out of nowhere and become an ace?
His value is very high right now, so try to deal him for a struggling pitcher like Roy Halladay (it's a stretch I know, but someone out there would do it I'm sure), or Brandon Webb.
