I was in San Diego recently and found the following exchange amusing. I did not pay close enough attention to it to know which dude was which though...

#1: 'the Blue Jays have used 54 different lineups so far this year. It's got to be hard for those guys to get into any kind of rythym with that inconsistency'

#2: 'yeah, but they're still winning 3-1 in the top of the seventh'

Re the rooting for the home team, Steve Stone has gone out of his way to give props to heated rivals when they are pounding the Cubs. I think that he is an extremely talented color guy. Chip Carey is ok but Steve really can be both entertaining AND informative re the sort of anecdotes he tosses out.
