Can Yahoo add a 'CL' for closer next year?

Postby riverrat » Tue Jun 29, 2004 1:00 pm

I sure would like Yahoo to add a 'CL' for closers next year and we would have the chance then to limit the strategy of going all relief, which is pretty popular. RP still used for Holds cat then. Can really come close to "real baseball" then.
Feedback anyone?

1) I don't see why going all relief is that big of a deal. It's not as though it's an invincible strategy

2) How do you gain closer eligibility? 15 save opps? And we all know how volatile that job is, a team can go through 4 closers in a season. You'd have so many more pitchers eligible to be closers that are actually closers, that it probably wouldn't really stop the all relief approach that much

I simply avoid Yahoo all together. I don't like any of their systems at all. However, I have some friends that play Yahoo, and I think point #2 above is the best point. How do you differentiate?

Yahoo added a cant cut list this year and updates it. It can keep track of each teams CL. Not that difficult.

So you'll have players losing eligibility in the middle of the season? I don't think that's a viable option, and not something most people want to deal with.

Plus, sometimes no one knows who the closer is- look at the Toronto situation, among others, earlier this season. What about CBC situations? Does Yahoo give all the pitchers who might close a game CL elgibility?

More complicated than you think.

Riske-->Betencourt-->jimenez-->Wickman. Easy.
CBC--whats the difference if 3 pitchers then get a CL rating for a team? Nobody knows who's the closer in that situation is with a CL or w/out the CL. Even w/out CL now nobody risks a roster spot until it settles itself out anyway.

I think you just made a good argument against adding a CL position.
