It all depends on if Gathright gets to stay up in the Bigs. If he does...he'll have a TON of value THIS year. He will be a premier base stealer. However, if he gets optioned back to the Minors when Baldelli returns, then obviously his value for this year will be pretty limited. I'll be watching the situation closely, and will use my 3rd waiver priority if he's given playing time over Cruz Jr. or McGriff at DH.

Compare Gathright to Rios? Man you must really have no idea about either to ask that question. Put it this way they have nothing in common, except both should be pretty good in the future.

If Gathright stays up, he will have value only if you need SB's. I wouldn't look for much else from him.

Rios won't do that well in any cat. so for this year if Gathright stays up he is more valuable. Long term though (in keepers), Rios has a lot more potential IMO.

Roto leagues -- Gathright will have more value forever.

Since that's all I play, that's all my advice ;-D

All I know about Gathright is he's fast...very, very fast. Oh, and he qualifies at 2B in my Sportsline league.

Gathright is supposed to be like Crawford/Pods.

Rios is supposed to be like Derrek Lee/Abreu.

That's their ceiling, however. And since it's easier to steal bases successfully when you're this young, than be a good hitter when you're this young, Gathright seems to have more value if he plays all year. Rios has been horrible this year though..........1 RBI in his first 100 AB's :-o Not good for a hitter that's supposed to be a power threat. But he's young, give him time. Long run, definately Rios over Gathright.

Rios doesn't have much power right now. He is mainly just a line drive hitter, once he gains weight though in the future a lot predict the power will come. As power is the last tool to usually develope.

that's not cool, hombre. i have heard the rios is a vernon wells clone with power/speed/avg capabilities. i have heard that gathright is faster than crawford.

my interest in comparison is in the probability that either one of these guys will start to light it up this year, next year, or later. jackal, your take is pretty helpful. i have watched some of rios' recent at-bats, and he is actually starting to look pretty sweet.

gathright (to me, anyway) still looks overmatched...until he's on base. there are a lot of good, young outfielders out there, now. crazy times for positions 7, 8 and 9. 8-o

Anyone know when Gathright will show up on Yahoo? Is there any rhyme or reason to when new players appear?
