No one questions Upton's upside at all really. I think the most prudent thing to ask might be, How long in the bigs before he lives up to those expectations?
Adrian Beltre has a world of talent and has been hyped as a break out player since he was 19. Several years later, this is the first year Beltre is showing it.
If he makes an instant Miguel Cabrera type impact then my hat off to him. With all the press expectations, media scrutiny, and hype involved of players with his phenom name recognition though, you just cant expect error prone youngsters like him to make an immediate impact.
I wouldnt be surprised if he performs above average after getting called up this year. During 2005 and 2006 be prepared for slumps and adjustments.
He is about as cant miss as you get in terms of prospects. Jeter type players are anolmalties and not the regular occurence with instant MLB performance though.
It wouldnt be overly shocking if he turns into a top 5 SS bye next years end, but dont be too surprised if it takes more like 2-4 years. For as well as he has improved at every minor league level with his promotions, he is still yet to face big league pitching.
"Son we would like to keep you around here but were trying to win a pennant this year."
