hes an OF.. played mostly CF in the minors methinks. the only thing i can think of is that the Rays are trying to deal off someone. either Baldelli or Cruz i'd think.. they already have said that Crawford's "off-limits"
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.
in my league, you can't pick him up. cbs lists him, and there's a profile, but no "pick him up" button...what's up with that?
i think he will get playing time. why call up a guy to plunk him on the bench? that makes no sense. actually, from cbssportsline:
Analysis: Gathright's speed is his best asset, and he can get on base, as evidenced by his .326 batting average in 21 games with Durham. He also registered an amazing 15 steals in those 21 games. His role with the Devil Rays is unclear right now, but he is worth adding to AL-only rosters and mixed leagues if a team needs steals desperately. Center fielder Rocco Baldelli has been used as the designated hitter because of a thigh bruise.
He might get limited PT, however they wouldn't bring him up if they didn't have plans in the near future (whether that be dealing Crawford/Baldelli/Cruz Jr) or Baldelli's heading to the DL.
For what it is worth, Crawford is the man that gets named in all the trade rumors here. Mostly in deals involving the Phillies.

Go to the add/drop page, find his name under the 2B tab, and add him.
You'd have to be pretty hard pressed for a few bags to pick him up, IMHO. Here's a scouting report.
Gathright is a player of extremes. He is so fast that Baseball America called him the fastest player in baseball last year. He makes contact, has hit for a high average at the AA level, and has shown a great eye at the plate. He has the skills of a prototypical lead-off hitter in the major leagues.
The problem is simple. He has zero power, which makes him a one-dimensional hitter. Pitchers at the advanced levels will challenge him resulting in fewer walks. Already we have signs of this as his walk rate was cut by more than half when he went from A+ to AA. That places a greater emphasis on him hitting for a high average. He is a slap hitter, so whether those slap hits will constitute a high average will be the entire story.
Scouts compare Gathright’s skills to Juan Pierre and Tom Goodwin. The only difference between those two is that one (Pierre) hits 30 points higher. That one difference makes Pierre a regular and Goodwin a career bench player. Those 30 points will make all the difference to Gathright.
I read a couple of days ago that Lou plans on having both Upton and Gathright up after the break ... and the article says he planned on using them. Not sue who they are goona swap, but they are goona swap out somebody ...
as for right now, Gathright is just getting his feet wet. If you can hang on to him for the long term, yes he is worth the pickup. But that scouting report says it all .....
The minors is littered with speedy guys that cannpt hit for average
ya'll are probably thinking about the other tb prospect bj. upton who plays shortstop. Im waiting everyday for him to be added to yahoo so ican snatch im up in my keeper league. Lots o scouts say is a hybrid of tejeda and jeter potentieal and should have an immdeate impact when he gets called up. But the only knock on him is that hes fielding blows big time.
