The next farm system stud???

Postby wp001g » Fri Jun 25, 2004 8:58 am

I have two slots open in my farm system.

Which two should I take?

Matt Cain - P, SF
Felix Hernandez - P, Sea
Ian Kinsler- SS, Tex
Jeff Francis - P, Col

Hernandez and Kinsler.

I like Cain as well and probably as a personal preference (because I prefer NL pitchers) would take him over Seattle. Both SF and Sea play in pitcher friendly venues so either is a decent bet if healthy.

Kinsler's been amazing this year....at the same time, he's come outta nowhere so you hafta be a little cautious.

francis has been lights out this year. but he pitches for the rockies, which means a lot of coors starts. that's not good.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll wind up going with Cain and Kinsler.

hey. i realize that i may be a little late,b ut i would rank felix hernandez #1 without question. he has unlimited potential, has been on fire lately and started the year (and remains) in high A ball at age 17! i like cain a lot too. yes, kinsler has been awesome this year but i'd bet money he cools off. if you still have the choice, go with felix over kinsler.

also, it's nice to have a guy like cain, who is in the giants organization because they don't hold their prospects back for long so you can see what he has sooner rather than later.

I agree, you should really really take Felix Hernandez. He started High A at 17 and has turned 18 since. Right now he is flat out dominating High A, which he really is not supposed to be able to do at his age. He has more upside then Cain, and he is just about as special of a pitching prospect there is out there.

About as good of prospects you can get. I normally don't go after prospect pitchers...in the rare cases I do, I go for NL starters and pitchers parks. It looks like you've done that for the most part.

Mauer and Delmon will be all-stars.

Reyes I'm not certain of....if he continues having hamstring issues, he's a closer to former NY prospect Cristian Guzman than an all-star -- who has also had hamstring problems in the past. Hopefully with work, he's learning how to train and stretch properly.
