Bret Boone...where do I go from here?

Postby KeyWestCorona » Fri Jun 25, 2004 8:13 am

I have never dropped a top five draft pick in my fantasy career...well I am very tempted this time. I just managed to get Jose Vidro out of the free agent pool as he was heating up and he is starting now in place of Boone. I am having some OF difficulties and I need to get a replacement for Vernon Wells. My bench is full and I am wondering if it will be worth it to drop Bret Boone at this point.
The weather is here. I wish you were beautiful.

Personally, I'd try to get whatever I can for him. I said it all along, he'll be a major bust. :-t

he can still turn it around... I would dislike dropping him because he could easily go on a streak right after you drop him. But if you need outfield help you namy have to do it

I think I am one of the last people around here that still thinks Boone will turn things around this season. Yea he has sucked, but I am fairly confident that he will have a strong second half to this season.

He can turn things around average wise but between the park he plays half his games in and the lineup he has around him I don't see his RBI's and Runs coming around

There's also a chance he could move to a better park in the impending Mariners fire sale.

My plan: Keep him on my bench (where he's been for awhile) until the July 31 deadline. Anyone I grab off FA is just going to fill that bench spot anyway, and he could A) turn it around or B) get traded to a contender. If neither happens, then he gets jettisoned Aug. 1 as I shore up pitching for the playoff push.

Thank goodness I'm running a strong 3rd in a 14-team league without him, so I can still think playoffs.

I'm in the exact same boat with him. I'm going to bench him for a bit & see what happens. He's got to turn it around somewhat right? *FINGERS CROSSED*

id be really surprised if he played through the whole season and didnt turn it around enough to have somewhat respectable numbers from now on.

the odds are so with him to turn it around. :-D
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.

As a Boone owner, I'm benching him until he turns it around. At the same time i'm sending out trade offers that include him and other players to upgrade my team. I'm lucky to have Kent at second so I can hold out until Boone is a complete bust. It's a risk worth taking, since if he does turn it around he'll be a nice addition to any team.
