Rivera = Cy Young

A local sports radio.....my favorite......Mike and the Maddog were just talking about the league MVPs and Cy Youngs. They both agreed that Vlad was by far the AL MVP, Rolen was the NL MVP and Schmidt the NL Cy Young. At first they said Hudson for AL Cy Young but then Mike suggested Mariano Rivera and Chris (avid Yankee hater) agreed.

Is Rivera the AL Cy Young right now? If not, who is?

It's very difficult for a closer to win that award. You have to be almost inhuman like Gagne was last year. Rivera deserves mention so far this year but I seriously doubt he gets it.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Yeah definately understood. I know it's extremely hard for a closer to win it, but there is no standout dominant pitcher in the AL right now, which is why I think those guys went with Mo.

Kaz--yeah WFAN kicks @$$.

I listen to the Fan as well. Maddog sure gets annoying sometimes when he goes on his rants.

Yeah he does but it's hilarious sometimes. When Florida beat the Giants in the NLDS last year he went crazy and I was on the floor rolling. :-D

Not only would it take an inhuman season by the closer, it also takes unspectacular years by the rest of league's starting pitching. Mulder, Schilling, Hudson, Lee, and maybe even Rogers would get my nod over any AL closer right now.

Postby Willie3101 » Tue Jun 22, 2004 2:59 pm

Im not sure who i would vote for right now (probably mulder) but certainly not rivera. I personally dont believe a reliever should ever win CY Young.
Let's play two!
