Tim Harrikala

Has been very solid as a MR guy so far this season with an ERA a little over 3 and a WHIP below 1.00.

I think from memory this is the guy that last played in the bigs back in the 1990's and is well into his 30's.

Could be another Jimmy Morris

He sure could not be any worse as a closer than Chacon.

What about Brian Fuentes? He was solid last year and has always had great K/IP ratio. He's been on the DL, but I think he should be coming back soon.

He can't be ignored.

I'm thinking about picking up Harikkala and dropping Chad Tracy. Tracy hasn't done jackisht lately and should lose playing time once Alomar returns...I need saves so this seems like I should take a flier on Harikkala. right?

If you are only losing Tracy for him you have nothing to lose IMO

Yep, that's the same guy. Harikkala tured pro back in '92 amd had a few cups of coffee with Seattle and Boston (9 games all told, with some hideous numbers). He's definitely NOT closer material. He's been a situational lefty/occasional starter and has only six minor league saves in over 100 appearances out of the pen.

And once again, I'll say it. STAY AWAY FROM ALL COLORADO PITCHERS, regardless of their role.

Chacon still the closer

Postby lifeform » Mon Jun 21, 2004 11:56 am

Amazingly, Rockies manager Clint Hurdle is still going to stay with Chacon for now.

From Sunday's postgame article on coloradorockies.com:

"What we're getting from (Chacon) is the focus, the intent and the work," Hurdle added. "This is a result-oriented industry, I'll be the first one to tell you that. This is something we are going to continue to work on. We aren't going to pull the plug yet."
Everything you know is wrong.

As we mentioned before. Because the manager put Chacon in the job, it will take more than a few horrible outings to pull the plug on him. The best part for Chacon is that there is no alternative. Hari-whatever is not a closer. Take a flier on him if you want, but you'll be sitting on it for a long time.

Yeah, plus Chacon recently saved 3 games in a row until blowing it again, so I imagine he's good to go for a little longer. Unofficially, I think 2 successful saves = 1 month closer license. A few more saves and Chacon will be closing until he's 52.
