If Piazza is so bad as a fielder, why do the statistics say otherwise?
if he's so much better than average,why is he playing 1st?

First of all, that doesn't answer my question. You're avoiding giving me a direct answer. At least I'm giving you answers to your questions.
Now, to answer your question, it's because his body has been banged up for so long, the Mets front office believes that they can get higher production from him if he plays 1st- so his body can rest. Less time behind the plate = less tired body = better production.
