Trade is not so bad for the Mets. They get a one-year rental on a power-hitting RFer for an over-the-hill RP close to retirement. Weathers had two pretty decent seasons for us and maybe a change of scenery will do him good. I wish him the best of luck with the 'Stros.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

A bum who becomes someone else's problem next year while we sign Ordonez or Berkman.

you would THINK so but with JIMY who knows......sometimes it seems he spends so much time wondering what happened to that other 'M' he gets distracted in his baseball moves. That and always wondering "hmmmm am i JIMMY or am i J-EYE meeeee????
Ok, so we've established that Lane is worth a flier and that Weathers is old. That said, is Hidalgo only going to get worse in NY or keep on doing the so-so? Not too thrilled with what happened with Floyd, so perhaps Hidalgo is dumpable for the aforementioned Lane...

I don't think he can get much worse than his current cold streak so he should improve just by default. But he's leaving a better lineup and a better hitter's stadium to join the Mets so his potential isn't as high as it was with Houston.

In an effort to inject some juice into their lineup, the Mets have obtained outfielder Richard Hidalgo from the Astros in exchange for right-handed reliever David Weathers, according to a report Thursday on the New York Daily News Web site.
