Why are you guys hating Dotel? The reason he blew that save was b/c 1) Berkman dropped that double
2) Dumb Jimy made him pitch 2 innings and 46 pitches the day before. If any of you haters actually watched the cubs ame, he didn't have much pop at all.
Everyone was asking the same thing about Dotel a couple of years ago. Now Wagner is an elite closer.
Dotel's career K/BB ratio: 2.8:1
Lidge's career K/BB ratio: 2.7:1
Both awesome ratios.
Even though Lidge is tearing it up this year, I don't see Dotel losing his job. He is the better pitcher (not to mentioned how disgruntled he'd be if they yanked him).

And so is K-Rod, right?
How can you say Lidge will never close? Both him and Dotel are in the same boat as far as I'm concerned: great setup-men with tons of K's. I'm sure everybody was saying Dotel will never be a closer, until it happened this year.........if Dotel falters, I can see Lidge getting a shot at closing. Great setup men don't always translate into great closers, so I don't see why they wouldn't give both of them a shot if Dotel hits a few rough spots. Especially with as good as Lidge has been.

Not to mention undoubtedly, when Lidge is a free agent he will jump ship for a nice contract to close for another club

true if Dotel goes through a ruff spot lidge will probably get the call to close

I'd say right now qualifies as a "ruff spot"....
How does now qualify as a rough spot? He has a 3.13 ERA with 13.07 K/9 and 3.29 K/BB, as well as a .216 BAA. I'll bet most relievers in the Majors wish they had "rough spots" like these.
