Konerko .346 (18/52) 12R-5 HR-19 RBI

Think that's a good enough reason?

They are facing a righty. As stated above it has to do with whether the White Sox pitcher is lefty or righty.

No. The sample is small and Hurt is on fire right now. If I was coaching the Sox Konerko would be on the bench and Thomas would be playing 1B. :-b
