Take over the closer role? Dotel has proven to not be closer material. Error or no error last night he should have shut it down! He is wild from what I have seen and a closer does not have the luxury of falling behind batters! Anyone with any thoughts on the situation?
This could get interesting. Williams is not the most predictabole manager on the planet, so who knows? But Lidge is dominating, Dotel isn't, and I think that Dotel could be better suited to his old role rather than the one he's in now. Definitely worth watching, and even more reason to own Lidge.
3.13 ERA isnt very good for a closer. Hes sort of like Latroy Hawkins in Minnesota, he doesn't seem to have that closer mentality. Dotel is now 0-4, which means hes had a little bit of trouble holding the lead or the tie. I think hes going to get more time, but if he continues to struggle look for lidge to start vulturing saves.
I doubt Lidge will take over the closers role, closing isnt the same as setting up obviously. Dotels done just fine, Dotel's last years numbers are very similar to Lidges numbers this year, and changing around closers messes with the pitchers head, and I don't think they need to in this situation.
Dotel (last year in set up)- 2.48 ERA .97 WHIP .172 Baa 3.2 Bb/9 10K/9
Maybe I'll be wrong, but I don't see Dotel losing his job this year. He has been ok, if not as good as he should be. However, he has the stuff, and should keep the job over Lidge in my opinion. There has been absolutely no talk of this in real life, so there is no reason to think it is imminent. Dotel thrived in the setup role, as Lidge is doing so now. Lidge could blow be just as inconsistent, you just don't know. I don't see any reason for the Astros to make the move now, and I am willing to bet that Dotel keeps his job for at least the duration of the season.
wouldn't matter to me because I traded Charles Johnson Jacque Jones and JC Romero in early May to get Contreras and Lidge giving me the Dotel-Lidge dream combo.
I suggest you all do the same

Forget the man crush. I drop what I'm doing to watch Zack Greinke pitch.

the silver lining is that he has a 3.1 era without having any control at all.. .. Dotel can be totally dominant if/when gets his control back... plus not even Jimmy williams will take someone out of the closer role right away just cos hes blown 3 outta 16 save opps. i see Dotel keeping the job.
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.
