IMPORTANT DECISION!! WHO SHOULD I DRAFT 1st??

Postby JakeBlues » Wed Jun 16, 2004 1:50 am

I am the commisioner of H2H league starting at midseason. I therefore have the first pick. Should I go with a pitcher (i.e. Clemens) or a batter (i.e. Scott Rolen). Why way would you go and who would you choose?

For me it's a no-brainer: Alex Rodriguez. Good offense, position scarcity/flexibility, consistency, and look like he's a five tool player this year.

Why do you get the 1st pick just because you're the commish and why would you take Clemens 1st overall?? Rolen has moved up considerably but all of those numbers don't count for the rest of the season. I would still go with either Pujols or A-Rod.

Maybe he is trying to put himself at a handicap. There is no clear cut 1st pick, the first 5 are all about even, it all just depends on what you want to go after later in the draft. I would take the 5th pick this year over just about any other position.

Agreed with Lo and stomp. As commish, you never want to put yourself in a situation where others might believe the position gives you an advantage, even if that isn't the case. Impressions matter.

Randomizing is good. :-)

I agree. I was just commenting on the fact that it seemed like he got the first pick just because he was the commish.

Might I recommend this:

Agree with everyone else...why would being the commissioner entitle you to choose first. Not that it's a great advantage, in fact I've never liked having the first pick. But it ought to be random.

As for your choices, Clemens would be a miserable first pick. So would Rolen, who's worth a ton, but is not what you want with a high first round choice. Go for a five tool offensive performer, such as PayRod or Vlad. And get Abreu in the second round, as he's going to have a career year and will produce 30/30 plus.
