I am the commisioner of H2H league starting at midseason. I therefore have the first pick. Should I go with a pitcher (i.e. Clemens) or a batter (i.e. Scott Rolen). Why way would you go and who would you choose?

For me it's a no-brainer: Alex Rodriguez. Good offense, position scarcity/flexibility, consistency, and look like he's a five tool player this year.

Agree with everyone else...why would being the commissioner entitle you to choose first. Not that it's a great advantage, in fact I've never liked having the first pick. But it ought to be random.
As for your choices, Clemens would be a miserable first pick. So would Rolen, who's worth a ton, but is not what you want with a high first round choice. Go for a five tool offensive performer, such as PayRod or Vlad. And get Abreu in the second round, as he's going to have a career year and will produce 30/30 plus.
