Tim Kurkjian's All-Time CF List

Postby ajgnydc722 » Tue Jun 15, 2004 6:50 pm

Just now on Sportscenter, Tim Kurkjian or however you spell it ranked his supposed top 5 CF of all-time. He said he has Griffey 5th but if he could actually count, he ranked him 6th.

Here's how he has it:
1. Willie Mays
2. Ty Cobb
3. Mickey Mantle
4. Tris Speaker
5. Joe DiMaggio
6. Ken Griffey Jr.
7. Duke Snider

How he has DiMaggio at 5th confuses me, as does him saying repeatedly how he ranks Junior 5th but puts 5 ahead of him. :-t

Griffeys not better then Mantle, not really that close. I rank Mantle 1st myself.

Mantle 172
Griffey 144

Mantle had a career 421 obs to the league average of 329
Griffey had a career 379 oba to a league average of 341

Mantle slugged 557 to the league average of 387
Griffey slugged 562 to the league average of 422

Mantle has 1,919 Runs Created in 9,099 PA, 1 every 4.74 PA
Griffey has 1,502 Runs Created in 8,169 PA, 1 every 5.43 PA

As a Mariner fan, and a Yank hater, i can say Mantle is king.

Where does every think Joe D belongs? I was under the impression we was a top 5 all-time player from many people/analysts I've heard. Now I see him rated the 5th best CF off all time.

I don't know alot about the way-back history of baseball so maybe somebody can help me out. Where is Joe D among CF and amoung all-time players?

Mays is #1. No question. The others, they could differ. Ty Cobb, as much of a racist bastard he was, is 2nd. then
mantle
speaker
dimaggio
snider
griffey

If he had done anything the past few years, Griffey would move up. But he hasnt.
