Vladdy for Alomar and Dye

Postby Guest » Mon Jul 01, 2002 2:36 pm

Hi,

I'm currently 2nd in a 4x4 10 team league. Here is my lineup:

Batting: 7th in BA, 2nd in HR, 2nd in RBI, 5th in SB

Marrero, Eli STL C
Pudge BAL C
Bagwell, Jeff HOU 1B
Spivey ARI 2B
Chavez, Eric OAK 3B
Arod TEX SS
Berkman, HOU OF
Anderson, Garret ANA OF
Sanchez, MIL OF
Guerrero, Vladimir MON OF
Salmon, Tim ANA OF
David Eckstein ANI Utility
Hinske, Eric TOR Utility

IR:
Knoblauch, Chuck ARI 2B
Gordon, Tom

I was offered Alomar and Dye for Vladdy. I'm not going to take it, but what do you think Vladdy is worth?

That's definitely an offer to turn down... :-D

I'd only trade him for either a premier bat, preferably at a shallow position, an ace pitcher, or a package that lets you upgrade several positions at once - at least this early. Later in the year, if the standings theoretically remain as they are now, you might profit by dealing him for somebody like Castillo in order to pick up stats in the categories that help you the most, but it's far too early to think about that sort of trade yet.

I just trade Glavine for Berkman in order to strenghten my OF. See any trades on the guys team that I could possibly offer in trading Vladdy?

You look pretty solid as is; I don't see much of a chance to gain from trading Vlad, unless the other team for some reason decides to massively overpay. Bonds and Sosa are options, naturally, but I don't expect such an offer is forthcoming.

Apart from a huge package such as Andruw/Oswalt/Urbina (just as an example), I don't think that this team has the right constellation to make an offer; you'd probably be better off shopping Vlad elsewhere. Or does somebody see anything that I'm missing?

We're still in negotiations trying to find a deal that works.

His team is willing to to part with a middle infielder, a second starter type pitcher or possibly a closer or some sort of combination at those positions.

He's looking for a solid RBI guy with average stolen bases and wants to try make a deal for either:

Vladdy or
Spivey or
Berkman.

I'm a close 2nd right now and just traded Glavine for Berkman. Here are my current stats:

Batting Average: 7th (.269)
Home Runs: 2nd (may go up to 1st with addition of Berkman)
RBI: 2nd (may also go up to 1st with addition of Berkman)
SB: 4th

ERA: 4th (3.59)
K's: 2nd
Saves: 7th
Wins: 1st

Do you see anybody in his lineup that could help my team if I made a deal involving either Spivey, Vladdy or Berkman?

If you can replace him at 2b, I'd shop Spivey before the others considering those standings. Start by asking if the other team would be willing to throw a closer your way, and see what happens...

What would be a fair trade involving Spivey? If I trade him there are a few available FA:

Vina
Adam Kennedy

What about the trade:

Spivey and Stewart

for

Alomar and Urbina

You may not even need Alomar with Vina available, but that looks like a good deal for you. If you can get Urbina in this way, you'll be improving your team at very little cost (not that Spivey's shabby). Good luck!

He says he doesn't want Spivey for a closer. What about if I offered:

Spivey and Julio

Dye and Urbina

That's a tough call. If you're worried about Julio, you should definitely make this offer; if not, it's probably a wash. You'll neither win nor lose terribly much here - it's probably a slight gain for you. The question is whether the other team wants to trade an of, when that was one of the positions they're trying to upgrade.
