That is to be expected as the athletes have gotten better, the balls juicier, and the parks smaller. 50 HR (for example) was the exception and not the norm.
true but now only the best get in when in the past, players who were just good (compared to their peers), or only good for a short time got in . Tony Lazzeri was hardly the greatest second baseman of his day, but he is a hofer.
