Is Fantasy Baseball More Luck or Strategy?

The guy who's leading my league was the only one that didn't draft his own team. Which leads me to the question...

In H2H, slightly more luck than strategy.
In Roto, pure science.

I think a little more luck. I've seen rookies run away with titles when they should have no business winning with the transactions they make sometimes.

I've also seen the best possible team being drafted on paper and they finish last because of injuries and fluke bad seasons.

I don't think luck factors much. This is my 18th year. I can't recall a novice, or below average player winning in my leagues. Maybe one did? It's been basically the top 30% 90% of the time. You drafted the team, you deserve the results.

Luck is a HUGE factor this year. In one of my leagues I have 7 regulars out with injuries and am languishing in last place. In another I don't have a single injury and am riding high in first place. That being said strategy is still the most important thing. Some people just get lucky for a while but inevitably by the end of the year they make enough bad moves or the superhuman numbers of chumps on their teams fall apart.

In my most important league, the same four guys have finished 1-4 for the past three years with one exception. That isn't luck.

In my roto keeper league, the same guy has won three years in a row.

Mostly strategy and hard work will usually win out over luck.

it's strategy about 100%. luck figures at about 50% level... the only luck that has anything to do is injuries.

It's like anything else. The best laid plans of mice and men...

You can mitigate luck by being a good study, but luck will always play a part. You have zero control over a fastball busting someone's hand and costing him 3-6 weeks of the season. It's entirely unpredictable, however, you can mitigate that luck by having a good backup if you believe a guy is injury prone.

I guess I'm saying it's both.

same here, same kids play all 4 sports & every year, theres always the same teams at the top of their respective sports. Luck does come into play a lil but, yes, but if u got a good league going its, strategy & good coaching/gm'ng

In my points league this year, I'm both lucky and good. Gotta love that.
