Sheff back to batting 5th

Sheff is back to batting 5th today, and Giambi is back to batting 4th. While him batting 4th when Giambi was out may not have been the key to why he is hitting better, but why change what is working?

Batting 5th: 139 AB, 3 HR, 20 RBI, 19 SO, .300
Batting 4th: 73 AB, 6HR, 18 RBI, 4 SO, .301

His average is close to the same, but everything else is extremely better based on the number of at bats. I have thought all year long that Sheff should be batting 4th over Giambi, but it sucks that Toree has to be loyal to Giambi. I sure hope batting 5th does not have an affect on his numbers, although he is 1-2 with 1 RBI today. I guess time will tell.

Well, nevermind I guess. He is 2-3 today with 2 RBI. I just dont like changing what is working.

well i think you could argue that sheff had more protection with giambi behind him. i'm not necessarily the biggest proponent of protection, however i have used that logic in arguing for the greatness of vladimir guerrero (he has protection this year and he's, what, .345/15/51 in ~58-60 games?)

so i'm thinking with a more feared bat in giambi behind him, as opposed to, i think, posada, he got a few more get-me-over type fastballs to feast on.

either way sheffield should be ok in that lineup
