Anyone know the status on Pedro Astacio? Last I heard, he was recovering from an arm injury and is a free agent. Certainly there must be some teams that could use the services of Astacio.
I see the Phillies just signed Paul Abbott and he's actually going to start for them until Wolf and/or Padilla get healthy. Weren't there better pitchers available?
Assuming he's healthy, wouldn't Astacio be a decent option for a teams like the Reds, Padres, Mets, and a few other teams with contending aspirations in search of a 5th/spot starter?
he was a good pitcher a few years ago, I havent heard a thing about him this year, He was w the Mets b4 he got hurt. again i havent heard a thing, but if its Astacio your looking to help your fantasy team, id defintiely look elsewhere
He had that open workout in March and the Yankess, Dbacks and Tigers were supposedly interested. Since then there hasn't been any new news so I guess the workout didn't go so well. Perhaps he's struggling to regain his old form. If he was back to form you have to think someone would have signed him by now.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
Astacio used to be a good pitcher, but he hit rock bottom a couple years ago. Everyone talks about how Chacon has Coors figured out last year. Well, Astacio was the first one to figure out Coors. Put together a 17-11 season with 210 K's and a 12-9 season with 193 K's while with them, with ERAs just above 5, which I think Chacon would have ended up far worse had he not been injured last year. But the 15-win, 200 K season are long gone for Astacio, probably even any 1-win 1K seasons, as his career is more than likely over, IMO.

Astacio didn't figure out Coors either. Even in 1999 he had a 7.16 ERA at Coors and a 3.60 ERA on the road. A majority of those 17 Wins came on the road, too. They just need to tear that place down and start over.
