1/3 of the season gone -- Who's the worst offseason signing?

My first place award goes to: Shannon Stewart.

Small market club gives average OF with hamstring issues/declining speed and quite possibly the worst arm in baseball $18 mil. over 3 years. Just think that money could of gotten a solid arm -- or kept either LaTroy/Eddie.

Which holds back over the current/long-term (take your pick): Lew Ford (arguably AL ROY thus far), Justin Morneau (best hitter in minors), Matthew LeCroy, Jason Kubel (highest rising OF prospect in the game this year; hitting the crud outta the ball), Michael Restovich, Mike Ryan.

Runner up was Sidney Ponson. Not ready to write off Colon -- when he's right, he can beat anyone in the game.

Who gets your vote???

The Pirates signing Mondesi?

No?

How about the Angels signing Mondesi then? (most likely out for the year with a torn quad)

One way or the other, it's Mondesi. Lol. :-D

I think Anaheim spent too much on Escobar. $19 over 3 years :-o I mean, he's good, but that's an awful lot for a player who hasn't had a full season as a successful starter. Although I think he'll become one.

Anaheim also signed Colon to a 4 year, $51 million contract. He has rewarded them with a 6.00 ERA and working hard to keep in shape.... he is listed at a generous 5-11, 250 lbs.

I also agree that so far it has to be Colon. Got a boatload of money for an awful first half, so far. You have to wonder if his physical condition :-P is starting to catch up with him :-?

I'd go with either Juan Gonzalez or Bartolo Colon...neither of them have done anything for their respective teams.
