the other thing though is that if you picked Rolen this year, he probably was several rounds later than Arod and you would have Rolen AND some other 1st round guy, you would not have had to endure the Arod slump and would be doing better in the standings than if you had gone after Arod, even 'punting' SS.

That's true, the owner in my league has Pujols and Rolen. That's just sick.
neither will win a league for me, but they sure would help.... it isn't the first round pick that will win you your league, it is the value you get in the middle and low rounds...
Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll drown because you forgot to teach him to swim.

Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.
I think 6 people have misunderstood the question: it's who would you rather have for the rest of the season. What has already been done wouldn't have any affect on the stats you'd get. That means A-Rod's horrible start doesn't negatively affect you, and Rolen's great start doesn't help you.
Take away each player's first month and A-Rod has more HR, R, and SB's than Rolen. And he's pretty close in BA and RBI. So even if Rolen continues at this torrid pace, A-Rod will probably beat him in 3 categories and will be right behind him in the other two. And do you honestly think Rolen will play like this all year? Hell no.
It shouldn't even be a question, and it's A-Rod. If the stats were counted as retroactive, then that's another story, but that's not what the question is.
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
I love Rolen, but there's 3 players I'd trade him for right now -- A-Rod, Pujols and Guerrero.
C'mon people, A-Rod is the best player in the game for a reason, the guy is a flat out stud. Rolen is great, but there's no way he keeps up this pace. He's been a pleasant surprise so far, but there's no way he tops A-Rod, regardless of the position scarcity involved.
