For the rest of the year, would you rather have Scott Rolen or Alex Rodriguez at 3B? Conventional wisdom would say Arod, but looking at the numbers, it seems that Rolen is far superior in all categories other than runs and steals. Based on that alone, one would think that Rolen would be the better choice. But one would also think that the RBI would have to come in greater quantity soon in that line-up, and that Rolen would cool down sometime. I have no idea who I would want. Convince me one way or the other.
Point 1: Arod still has SS eligibility. Rolen has only 3B in a stacked position.
Point 2: Arod is a 5 cat guy, Rolens 4
Point 3: The reason Rolen looks better now is because he's having a career year, and Arod and the Yanks sucked it up early. Look at them now, probably the best team i nte MLB. Arod will rack up the RBIs and hits. Cards look good too, but the Yanks have a better lineup=more runs and RBIs
I voted Arod, and I don't have much to add other than Arod hasn't even gotten hot yet.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
Last year Rolen had 13 SB's and A-Rod had 17. Not a big difference, and definately not enough to say A-Rod wins because he's a 5 cat player while Rolen is only 4. This year is a different story, but I'm not so sure A-Rod will keep stealing. And this was asking about from here on out, so those 9 SB's don't mean squat unless he keeps running.
And no, I'm not the lone Rolen voter, I'd still rather have A-Rod
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
right NOW, given Rolen's pre-series comments re all pulling together w/ Big Al on the bench and Rolen's rampage vs. the Cubs, I would probably rather have had Rolen so far.
He is playing on a different level than he has in the past and I think that some sort of intangible thing is operating, perhaps being 'tapped' for a leadership role he never enjoyed due to the different political situation that Larry Bowa created in the Phillies clubhouse, is really making a BIG difference in his performance this year.
As a Cubs fan, I am HOPING that I'm horribly wrong and that he will fall off the wagon soon but, as a fantasy manager, if I had Arod and could get Rolen for him, was not in first place and needed to 'gamble' to make up ground, I'd go for it if I had a decent SS.

I can. Rolen is definitely way too hot right now and Arod isn't too hot. I think most people will agree with me that Rolen will become 1st or at least 2nd round picks next season and he's going to become huge. I definitely think that Rolen and Arod are comparable. Rolen won't hit same number of homers as Arod but yes, he will compare with other cats very well. Also, If Arod was only 3b eligible, that would be a different story. I'd then go with Pujols and Soriano before Arod. SS eligibility is HUGE.

Yes, I'll take Arod over Rolen.
I agree, next year comparing Rolen and A-Rod will be a lot more understandable. But this year, the two aren't even close IMO.
