Line Up Help

Postby Siege1386 » Fri Jun 28, 2002 1:08 pm

I recently picked up Kearns (after Griffey went down AGAIN) and was thinking of playing him this upcoming week (6/30 - 7/6) , but now with Edgar Martinez returning and doing good in his first game back, I am unsure. Out of the seven players, which 6 should I play (4 OF, 2 UTL but any combo will do b/c I only have 2 non-OF)

Austin Kearns
Fred McGriff
Chipper Jones
Edgar Martinez
Juan Pierre
Adam Dunn

Thanks in advance.

Hi Siege. I think your first instinct was correct: Leave Martinez on the bench for a week until you see that he's back at 100% and starting every day. While he was excellent yesterday, that was just one game, and it's probably not worth taking such a risk at tghis point. If he does well, get him in your lineup for the following week.

I concur, I'd reserve Edgar in the short term. Too risky to commit to in a weekly lineup situation.

I only put 6 of them, but it doesn't really matter becuase Ichiro is the seventh and I am playing him!

Yes, I can't think of too many situations where you'd want to bench Ichiro... :-D

It may be my AL centric bias but I'd be inclined to Edgar. May be some risk but most likely rust and he's consistently under-rated but he simply hits and plays in the outstanding lineup. I'd be surprised if the Mariners rushed him given where we are in the season.

There's always the other view. :*)
