This guy is absolutely en fuego, and has been since the beginning of the year. He adds his second and third homeruns tonight in consecutive games. That brings his season total of HRs to 16, and his RBI to an absolutely Herculanean 62. He's hitting right around .350 on the season.
Here's my question. In the past, Rolen has been a strong fantasy producer, but never at a clip like this. He's always been seen as a consistant 30/100 guy, with a batting average around .280. So far, this year has been so far above and beyond anything he's done in the past. Is he playing beyond his ability right now? Obviously he's not gonna get 170+ RBI, but is there any reason why he can't keep this up? On ESPN, Joe Morgan (I believe) mentioned that Rolen has worked on shortening his swing, which allows him the pull the inside fastball for power. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this assertion? I was trying to trade Rolen a while ago, so I could buy low and sell high on some struggling superstars. Right now, I'm really starting to rethink that decision.
I just want to know what other Rolen owners are doing with this guy. Trade now while he's hot, or hang onto him and ride the hot hand for the rest of the year? I must say, this has been one of the biggest and most pleasant surprises of the season.
