appears to be extremely prone to pressure

The whip and ba are the stats you want to look at. Of course the era is going to go up with RISP, that's common sense.

If anything he seems to get better in pressure situations.

I was gonna post something like that as well, KolbSaves.

IMO, it's only gonna go to committee if Hawkins can't do the job. Since he was warming up for the save opp. the other night, he's obviously gonna get 1st crack at it. It's his to lose at this point, I think.

However, someone posted in another thread, that if he gets a few saves then sell high. Unless you need the saves for yourself, I think this is good advice.

JoBo went on the DL today. Which may explain his absence yesterday. If Hawkins goes well, a save today, he may keep the job.

well, Hawkins gave up 2 hits to the Pirates best 2 hitters, but pulled it out for the save. Remlinger and Farnsworth combined for 1/3 and 2/3 to get through the 8th.

I'd expect this is how it'll go unless Hawkins starts giving up runs.

It'll be Hawkins. I think Dusty & Cub management don't want to flat out say he's their guy to not put too much pressure on him. He's been their best reliever by far this year & wouldn't expect that to change.

I'd hold on to him. If you try to deal him, I'm sure people will bring up a failure a few years ago in Minnesota.

If everything were based on the PAST, Joe should have a sub 3.00 ERA shouldn't he?? (or Jose Mesa should be toiling in middle relief)

If Farns/Remlinger struggle, I think a trade for a closer (sending Latroy back to set up) or another setup guy could be made.
