Computer Experts help please!!! I think I fried my MOBO

So anyways Im pretty sure I fried my mobo..I put the wrong ram in and it wasnt in right and it either fried my old ram or fried the ram slots in my mobo...

I have a compaq d310 w/ i845g chipset....
I've been told I can put my processor into a new motherboard as long as the FSB is the same as the i845g and if the pentium chip is supported...

so i am going to put in this board: i845pe....it looks they same - the integrated graphics which i dont need cause i have a 9600xt.

Hmm, wrong RAM... you can still be happy, because my PC caught fire two months ago, even worse. Well, I think you should have no trouble upgrading with that stuff, as I think that Compaq gave up on their unusual connections and stuff but I heard they had different RAMs at least a few years ago. Maybe that caused the RAM trouble?!

But without seeing the whole stuff, I can't guarantee much...

This isn't true. You have to make sure that the mobo supports the processor. The i845g only supports the P4 I believe so I am assuming you have a P4. You need 1) a mobo that supports the P4 processor and 2) you need a mobo that fits your particular processor housing. For instance the most common housing for a P4 is the "Socket 478". You have to make sure the mobo fits a Socket 478 processor. Finally 3) if you have any memory left that isn't fried and you want to use it, you need to make sure the mobo supports the type of memory you have as well.

You shouldn't have to worry about the speed of the FSB becuase all mobo's that support the P4 will be within the acceptable ranges by default.

Right on thanks guys...yea it was fried...bought a new mobo and new ram and a new harddrive...still gonna runmy PIV 2.0ghz but im gonna overclock it to 2.5ghz
