How to handle catchers days off?

Postby fiz » Thu Jun 03, 2004 12:20 pm

Jason Varitek is my catcher and occasionally he gets the day off (e.g. when wakefield pitches) - all catchers do this (unless they are just c eligible and play 1b)...my question is, is it worth it to use a roster spot on a 2nd catcher to fill in these days (and also scheduled days off when the team doesnt play)? im in a 5x5 roto 12-team yahoo league with a 162 games started per position max. im a few games behind at C (-4), so im wondering if i should grab someone...i undersatnd that if the fill-n goes 0-4 its bad, but in general is this a strategy people use?

if you know the catcher's scheduled day off I would carry 2, thats an extra 15-20 games a year. I employed the 2 catcher plan with Javy Lopez last year, but this year I drafted an Pudge as my catcher so on his day off he still DH's.
