What impact does Chavez's injury have on the A's starters?

Postby beef » Wed Jun 02, 2004 6:54 pm

Chavez is a vital part of the A's offense and defense. He's obviously got an impact on the A's five starters, but how signifigant is it?

I assume Hudson and Mulder will remain alright since they've been fairly solid this season.

Zito, Harden, and Redman need all the offensive and defensive help they can get right now. How much of an impact does this have on them and the types of numbers they'll post for the rest of the season?

I would assume that only the W and Sv columns would be effected, if anything. Not having Chavez in the lineup will not effect the number of k's harden throws, nor will it effect Zito's WHIP or ERA. I would ultimately say that it would not effect the starteres too much...a more accurate answer to this question takes into account way too many variables, so I just say "not too much."

I wonder if this effects the pitcher sin the way that they aren't as confident in their fielders and tries to do more on their own, thus leading to a few blow ups once in while - just a thought - plus they will think without Chavez this offense os crap (which it is) and try to hard as they think they will have to pitch a shutout every time

Obviously defensively makes them worse.

Their pitchers may have to take a little longer between pitches so McLemore can use his oxygen mask.

How big of an impact do you think it'll have on their win totals? I'm especially concerned with Harden...because I own him. :>

what about the offense for the A's ? i'd imagine Dye's stock will go up somewhat in the 3 hole for the next 6 weeks and prolly Kotsay's will go down a lil :-?
Manny Ramirez....$20 million
Pedro Martinez....$17.5 million
Curt Schilling...$12 million (and a $2 million bonus)
Never hearing a Yankee fan chant 1918 again...priceless.

Means their offense will be even worse than it was WITH Chavez.
