Jeff Hackett, of the Flyers, had to retire this past season (during the middle of the season) due to a severe case of vertigo. He tried treatment, and the symptoms faded, but then would come back as soon as he would stop treatment and attempt to play again.

Doesn't sound like good news to me if Sheets has a severe form.

this definitely goes into the case of very odd injuries this year in baseball. IMO right up there with Sammy throwing out his back sneezing. I mean, vertigo? How many pro athletes get that?

Name from the past............

Nick Esasky 1B Atl 1990
I remember this only because I had never heard of Vertigo when it happened to Nick. He got it and never played another game. He was a promising FA pickup by the Braves in 1990 and I thought he would help them out esp after 30 Hrs the previous yr for the Red Sox I beleive. Anyway I am not saying Sheets has it this bad but the post struck a nerve.

Wasnt there a first baseman about 10 or 11 years back who had his career ruined by vertigo? Think his name was Glenn Davis or something like that, had a great year then couldnt play anymore because of it.

Nevermind, t2green2 just came up with the name two minutes before me. Nick Esasky, thats right.

And if it's viral, you can't take antibiotics. You can't "kill" a virus since technically it isn't even alive. At least that's about all I remember from HS biology. But it could be gone in no time......then again, if it's bad, it could stick around for a while.

Sounds like somebody paid attention in biology class! :-D
